In this episode, we talk with Enid Torregrosa Key West's Historic Preservation Planner 10 years in the making! Our city is happy to have someone with her professionalism and expertise. Originally from Puerto Rico with Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, she relocated to Key West after getting married.
She designed to move to Indiana from San Juan, PR to pursue her Master's in Historic Preservation at Ball State University. Her biggest interest was learning how to place new buildings next to historic ones. Her proudest achievement is working to restore one of the oldest houses in Puerto Rico that dates back to the 1600's which is now a community center.
The Historic Preservation Board is a big element in Key West because it holds 3,000 buildings in the historic district. Many don't know that the Old Island Restoration Commission established in 1968 was the original name for the Historic Architectural Review Commission(HARC).
Since historic buildings in Key West have such unique architecture, Enid's work over the past 10 years has been instrumental in bringing transparency to city's presentation process for reviewing historic reservation plans.
