Keys to spiritual health - 3 - Praise

Listen Later

The story is often told about a young boy who is in an Anglican Church with his father during a rather boring Sunday morning service. As he looks at the plaques on the walls, he asks his father why there are so many people’s names written on them. The father replies, “those are the names of the people who have died in the services”. It’s a funny story (although we ourselves wouldn’t commemorate those who have died in the services). But it illustrates how some church services are endured more than enjoyed. How can we make our praise and worship more full of life (not necessarily more lively), and more enjoyable? How can we make nor only our Sunday services more enriching in our praise and worship, but make the whole of our lives more God-honouring as we worship him in all that we do? Firstly, we should worship God alone. This means not worshipping celebrities, idolising the TV on its pedestal in the corner of the front room, or anyone or anything else that takes priority in our lives before God (Matthew 4:10). Secondly, we should worship in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:23-24). With worship from the heart, we can enjoy God no matter where we are, or what situation we happen to be in (Philippians 4:11-13). Praise God!
