It was a Smoky Mountain Reunion as the Tusculum Pioneers made their first trip back to Emory & Henry since 1950. The Pioneers dropped football after the 1950 season when their last visit to Emory resulted in a 47-0 loss. Fast forward to 2023, and the Wasps hang another loss on the Pioneers in a 27-24 overtime thriller. It was Homecoming at Emory & Henry College, and there were thousands of alumni and fans on campus as the Wasps took on the division leading Lions of Mars Hill. It was a defensive battle and in the end the Lions prevailed with a 24-14 win over the Wasps. The sixth edition of the Southwest Virginia Bowl saw the Wasps move their advantage to 5-1 over their rivals from Clinch Valley, UVA Wise Cavaliers, with a score of 41-24. The special teams unit for the Wasps supplied enough firepower to carry the Wasps to their third victory of the season and snap a three game skid.
