Smaller ministries don’t have the luxury of filling their volunteer slots with perfect singers and musicians. The pressure we experience from the black culture to bring a certain wow factor often competes with God’s divine purpose for why he chose us in the first place. (This episode does not intend to eliminate the need for excellence and serving in your appropriate calling)
Here are a few points from this episode:
* Black Church Pressure to do everything perfect musically
* We didn’t get trained for this!!
* Pressure to be perfect for the audience versus being perfect in the sight of God to fulfill his purpose
* The Wow Factor sucks us into a hunger for fleshly accolades
* Our one desire should be to please God and offer up what we have with a heart that pleases him
* Our hearts must not be after what we can gain in music but after what we can add to the kingdom because of what the kingdom of God gave to us
* Teaching aspiring singers and musicians how to find, recognize, and follow God in the word and prayer will allow the Holy Spirit to fill them in such a way that closes the gaps in harmonizing, a unified sound, and being able to truly get into the music with passion
