Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the former longtime chairman of the extremist group Proud Boys, was indicted on a new federal charge of seditious conspiracy with four top lieutenants on Monday. The charges expand the Justice Department’s allegations of organized plotting to oppose through violence the certification of President Biden’s election victory, culminating in the attack on the Capitol by a mob on Jan. 6, 2021.

Fox News will not carry the hearing. Instead, the network will stick with its prime-time lineup of opinionated conservative hosts: Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, who have repeatedly downplayed the assault as a mere “footnote” to American history and tried to discredit the congressional inquiry as a ruse to “purge” former President Donald J. Trump and his supporters from the Republican Party.

Senators buckled down Tuesday for days of additional negotiations on a response to recent high-profile mass shootings, retreating from earlier calls for quick action even as they expressed optimism that a long-elusive deal to address gun violence might eventually be possible.

The calls for patience came as a small bipartisan group of senators continued delicate talks on a legislative package that could include the first significant new federal gun restrictions in three decades, along with provisions dealing with school security and mental health. But they are fighting a tide of recent history demonstrating that Congress’s appetite for action tends to quickly fade as tragedies such as the killings in Buffalo and Uvalde last month fade from the headlines.

Matthew McConaughey delivered an emotional speech at the White House today urging lawmakers to commit to stricter gun reform legislation.

The 52-year-old Oscar winner used his time at the press briefing room podium to tell the story of those who died last month in the deadly shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, the actor’s hometown.

Elsewhere in his speech, McConaughey called out the "people in power" in both the Democrat and Republican parties for failing to pass stricter gun laws.

"Can both sides see beyond the political problem at hand and admit that we have a life preservation problem on our hands?” said the actor, who is a proponent of universal background checks for gun buyers as well as raising the age to buy assault rifles from 18 to 21 and implementing a national waiting period for assault rifles.

n an interview with the Washington Post, Greg Norman said Tiger Woods was offered a gargantuan deal to join LIV Golf.

Norman, who serves as the CEO for the Saudi-based golf league that launches this week, was profiled by the Washington Post’s Kent Baab. In the piece, Baab notes that LIV Golf representatives pitched the fledgling circuit to Woods’ representatives. According to Norman, the offer was “mind-blowingly enormous.”

The Justice Department on Monday charged the head of the Proud Boys, Enrique Tarrio, and four other leaders with seditious conspiracy in the January 6 US Capitol attack, escalating the criminal case against the far-right extremist group.

These are the most aggressive charges brought by the Justice Department against the Proud Boys, and are the first allegations by prosecutors that the group tried to oppose by force the presidential transfer of power.Tarrio and his co-defendants previously pleaded not guilty to an earlier slate of charges.

The new indictment adds fresh details about what Proud Boys leaders said on January 6, 2021. Prosecutors accuse the five defendants of working together to intimidate members of Congress and law enforcement and prompt them to flee, thereby preventing them from performing their official duties.

Arnulfo Reyes, a teacher at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, shared his heartbreaking story of being in the classroom during the mass shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead last month. On Tuesday, he told Good Morning America that all 11 of his students were killed in front of him.

Reyes, who is undergoing multiple surgeries after suffering two gunshot wounds on May 24, detailed the horrific day, saying they were watching a movie in the classroom after attending an awards ceremony earlier that morning when they heard the gunfire. “‘Let’s go ahead and get under the table. Get under the table and act like you’re asleep,'” he recalled telling his students, repeating the protocol they had learned during previously training for mass shooting situations.

An illegal immigrant who has been deported five times was sentenced on Monday to time already served over a federal weapons charge related to his acquittal of murder in the 2015 shooting death of San Francisco woman Kate Steinle.

Jose Inez Garcia-Zarate is facing deportation to his native Mexico after a federal judge in California sentenced him to the seven years he has already spent in jail — bringing an end to the case that sparked a firestorm over immigration and sanctuary cities.

“If you return to this country again and you are back in front of me, I will not spare you. Let this be your last warning: Do not return to this country,” US District Judge Vince Chhabria said during his sentencing hearing.

Steinle, 32, was shot dead while she was walking along San Francisco’s crowded Pier 14 with her dad and a friend on July 4, 2015.

Garcia-Zarate, who was in the US illegally and had already been deported five times, admitted to accidentally firing the gun.

He said he’d found it under a bench, but didn’t know it was a firearm because it was wrapped up in a T-shirt. The gun fired when Garcia-Zarate picked it up and officials said the bullet ricocheted off the ground before striking the victim.
