U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of Florida said the mandate exceeds the statutory authority of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Wearing a mask cleans nothing. At most, it traps virus droplets. But it neither ‘sanitizes’ the person wearing the mask nor ‘sanitizes’ the conveyance,” Mizelle wrote.

Some doctors say it’s time to rename low-grade prostate cancer to eliminate the alarming C-word. Cancer cells develop in nearly all prostates as men age, and most prostate cancers are harmless. Changing the name could lead more low-risk patients to skip unnecessary surgery and radiation.“This is the least aggressive, wimpiest form of prostate cancer that is literally incapable of causing symptoms or spreading to other parts of the body,” said University of Chicago Medicine’s Dr. Scott Eggener, who is reviving a debate about how to explain the threat to worried patients.

 “If you reduce anxiety, you’ll reduce overtreatment,” said Dr. David Penson of Vanderbilt University. “The word ‘cancer,’ it puts an idea in their head: ‘I have to have this treated.’”

Guest: Sal Rizzo, Washington Post reporter Disease trackers are monitoring the spread of new, highly transmissible versions of the omicron variant in New York state and Europe, the latest evidence of the caronavirus’s ability to overhaul its genetic profile and pose a fresh threat.

It is too soon to predict how far the new sub variants might spread and how sick they might make people, said Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.

Today - Joaquin Ciria -  a man who has been in prison for 32 years for a murder he says he didn’t commit has his conviction overturned and a new trial was set.  It’s because of the Innocence Commission out of the San Francisco DA’s Office. “Our office is proud of and grateful for the work of the Innocence Commission in rectifying the wrongful conviction of Mr. Ciria,” Boudin said in an emailed statement. “Although we cannot give him back the decades of his life lost we are grateful that the court has corrected this miscarriage of justice.”

Pressure is mounting for President Biden to visit Ukraine after his administration said it is considering sending a senior official to the embattled country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Sunday both expressed an interest in having Biden visit Ukraine; British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited the war-torn country earlier this month. Zelensky told CNN’s “State of the Union” that he expects the U.S. leader will do so. “I think he will. And I think he — but it’s not — I mean, it’s his decision, of course. And about the safety situation, it depends. I mean that. But I think — I think he’s the leader of the United States, and that’s why he should come here to see,” Zelensky said. Kuleba said a visit from Biden “would be an important message of support for us” during an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and he noted that a meeting between the two presidents could “pave the way” for new supplies, weapons and discussions on a possible political settlement to end the conflict.
