After the Senate approved the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure, President Biden took a victory lap Tuesday afternoon, thanking the bipartisan negotiators, touching on themes from his candidacy -- the idea that this 36-year veteran of the Senate could reinvigorate the bipartisan cooperation of an era gone by.  “After years and years of 'infrastructure week,' we're on the cusp of an infrastructure decade that I truly believe will transform America,” Biden said in triumphant remarks delivered from the White House’s East Room. But the bill still faces some pushback in the House of Representatives -- but not from Republicans. House progressives have said they are prepared to vote against the bipartisan infrastructure package until the Senate passes a "robust" reconciliation bill that includes the rest of Democrats' agenda.

Standing outside of the Academy of Knowledge on Monday, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said that if it were up to her, vaccination would be required for school staff. But she noted that she does not run the school district. “I can say for the city of Oakland, that is the path that we’re moving towards,” she added.

Newsom is supposed to hold a press conference at an Oakland elementary school to talk about protecting students and urging people to get vaccinated.

The state of Oregon will no longer require its students to demonstrate proficiency in math, reading and writing in order to earn a high school diploma in a bid to bolster minority students.  

Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill late last month suspending the state's 'essential skills' requirement for graduation for the next three years while its Department of Education seeks alternative graduation requirements.

The Senate gave overwhelming bipartisan approval on Tuesday to a $1 trillion infrastructure bill to rebuild the nation’s deteriorating roads and bridges and fund new climate resilience and broadband initiatives, delivering a key component of President Biden’s agenda. The vote, 69 to 30, was uncommonly bipartisan. The yes votes included Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader, and 18 others from his party who shrugged off increasingly shrill efforts by former President Donald J. Trump to derail it.
