  • KHOL - "Monumental" Film feat. Local Skiers in National Parks
    We talked with Chris Kitchen from KGB Productions about a film they produced along with Powder Magazine and REI called "Monumental: Skiing Our National Parks". The film celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service by reminding skiers where we came from, and the we belong to something greater than ourselves. It features local skiers Lynsey Dyer, Griffin Post, Max Hammer, and Connery Lundin with scenes filmed in Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Teton, Glacier, and Olympic National Parks. You can see it at the Pink Garter Theater on October 24th with showings at 5:30pm and 7pm including Q & A after both.

    We talked with Warren Samuels, the Director of Admissions at the Journeys school (as well as a social studies teacher and lacrosse coach), about a new scholarship being offered by Teton Science Schools. It's called the Community Merit Scholarship and any children or grandchildren of government employees in Teton County are eligible. We talked about why Journeys offers 40% of students tuition assistance and the dynamic between independent and public schools in the Valley and how that compares with the East Coast where he worked previously.

    Nona talked with Zenka, who was in town for TEDxJacksonHole and the JH Wild Festival. Zenka is a Los Angeles based artist who makes art for the galactic age. She is known for her augmented reality sculptures and high-tech street art. Her raku sculptures and prints are held in the collections of fortune 500 companies, such as Google and Delta Airlines and tech startups such as Survios, Merge, Senetics, StarVR and River Studios.
    Zenka's "Augmented Reality Interventions" is on display in the Center Theater Gallery, which features her work, which becomes interactive when you download an iPhone App.

    By the time the ski lifts start running, Jackson Hole will be home to Moe's Original BBQ, offering Alabama-style barbeque and southern soul food. We spoke with entrepreneur and Jackson native Tom Fay (of Pinky G's Pizzeria) who is opening the restaurant with David Fogg. The "friendchise" has 38 locations around the US and was started by a small group of friends in the parking lot at Vail.
