In part 1 of our conversation with Lavoisier, Sean and Vois discuss the current state of Hip Hop and whether its overall impact has been harmful or helpful to Black America. They also discuss Joyner Lucas's new single 'Devi's Work', and Vois shares why he believes the legacy of Black freedom fighters aligns closer with modern day conservatism than liberalism.
Dr. Vince Bantu is a professor and PhD with a focus in Semitic and Egyptian languages. His areas of concern include racial reconciliation and multi-ethnic origins of Christianity. Author, Activist and Abolitionist Johnathan Walton, stops by the show to discuss his new book Twelve Lies That Hold America Captive: And the Truth That Sets Us Free. We discuss the history of America and how we got modern day Christianity in America and the false assumptions that accompany it. How does America's history as Empire play out in Christianity today? Why did so many Americans find Colin Kaepernick's protest so offensive? What exactly is 'White Folk Religion?'
On the latest Table Talk the K.I.N.G. Team has a tremendous discussion reflecting on our interview with Jason Wilson, of the Cave of Addullum and author of the new bestseller 'Cry Like a Man'. The men discuss racial trauma in their family history as well as stories of triumph and how that helped shape their identities. The men also discuss social pressure to 'act black' in their youth and the role faith and family played in helping them navigate that. Finally the men discuss what parenting in the 'Cardi B' era means for young girls. Listen up!
Jason Wilson, who runs the Cave of Adullam Transformational Training Academy (CATTA) in Detroit, Michigan, has a new book titled 'Cry Like a Man: Fighting for Freedom from Emotional Incarceration'. We discuss the lynching of Jason's grandfather, the murder of his brother, his mothers battles with depression and how generational trauma in the black community has misconstrued masculinity. We also discuss CATTA and why Jason left a successful music production career in the 90's--making records for the likes of Kurupt, The Dogg Pound, and Redman--to pursue a life dedicated to saving boys through faith and martial arts.
On the latest K.I.N.G. Talks, we have guest Brandon Porter II, discussing his book If Obama Had a Son—which we wrote at age 19. We discuss the implications of legacy in the father-son relationship and why that question 'If Obama Had a Son?' offers hope for young black men in America. Brandon also responds to criticism that the book title has sexist undertones and why that is a false representation of the book's message. We also discuss Brandon's upbringing as a Pastor's kid, community parenting in the church, and advice for young people setting goals.
Episode 21! We are at the Table this week discussing our recent dialogue with Sa Nater--prominent figure in the Black 'Conscious Community' and the host of BlackNews 102 and SaNeterTV. We have an All-Star Panel this week as our Founder and President, Chris Broussard joins the Table, along with host Sean Slaughter and Adam 'Scott Lane' Coleman. This week at the Table we ask discuss Sa Neter's prison conversion and whether 'conscious' religions are more appealing to incarcerated brothers. We also discuss why the ethnic origins of Jesus actually matter for establishing credibility within conscious circles and how K.I.N.G.--and movements like it--can potentially fill a void left by the Nation of Islam's decrease in popularity. Buckle up...this is a fascinating and informative Table Talk! #kingmovement #kingtalks #podcast
Our latest guest is the host of BlackNews 102 and SaNeterTV. Brother Sa Neter is an icon in the 'New Black Conscious Community'. We pull in our guy and prominent Urban Apologist, Adam Coleman, to guest host this episode. Adam and Sa discuss the Conscious Community and what attracted him to it. We also ask the question why the Conscious Community is so hostile toward the Christian Church and often label Christianity the 'slave-masters' religion and a possible pathway forward for changing that narrative. To cap it off, we reveal plans for an upcoming collaboration between K.I.N.G. and Sa Neter TV where leading scholars from the Christian and Conscious Community will hold a moderated debate for the public. This episode is important for so many reasons and represents a paradigm shift in the dialogue between Christians and the Conscious Community. Check it out!
We are back at the Table reflecting on the issues raised by our last guest Pastor Jerome Gay Jr. We spoke to Pastor Gay about the recent Statement on Social Justice released by John MacArthur. New host Sean Slaughter links up with Tru-ID host and panel mainstay Adam Coleman, along with our very own Donal Cogdell aka Reflect--Hip Hop Recording Artist, Director of Development for K.I.N.G. and Minister of Social Justice at HOPE Church Astoria. The panel really attempts to answer the question 'Why Now?' What is it about our political and cultural environment in the Church that has prompted this statement to be released now. The panel offers some tremendous insights of their own in addition to the one's Pastor Gray offered us on the last episode. Check it out!
