In this powerful episode, Frank King addresses the importance of self-encouragement. We all need to be encouraged at times. Every week millions attend the house of God regularly to be encouraged through the good news of the gospel.  But there will be times in your life when you must be able to encourage yourself.

We tend to use the terms joy and happiness interchangeably. But just because you are happy does not mean you have joy. Happiness is a function of what’s happening in your life. We tend to be happy when good things are happening. But nobody goes around being happy when everything is going wrong. But if you are in Christ, you can have joy during those times in your life. That’s because joy is a state of gladness that transcends the events in your life.

Do you expect the Holy Spirit to speak to you? According to the Scriptures, He is a real person. God sent Him to guide us in this life. But how can He possibly do that if we don’t expect to hear the “voice” of the Holy Spirit speaking to us?

Jesus told His disciples to expect the Holy Spirit to speak through them when they suffered persecution for His name. He said, “But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you” (Matthew 10:19-20, KJV).

Similarly, we should expect the Holy Spirit to speak to us. Since He is a Spirit, we can’t see Him. He does not speak audibly. But He speaks to our spirit or our inner being.

According to Frank King, the more you live your life expecting and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you, the better you will get at living that way. And the better you will know the voice of the Holy Spirit. But you will never get there if you don’t take the first step.

Where are you currently building your treasure? In heaven or on earth? It should be no surprise that Jesus says you should build your treasure in heaven. Building a treasure on earth will bless you only in this life. But a treasure in heaven will bless you in this life and throughout eternity.

For a practical reason why you should build your treasure in heaven, consider these words of Jesus: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:21, KJV). In other words, your heart will become one with the place where you build your treasure.  That means it’s not possible to preoccupy yourself with the concerns of this world, invest the most of your time and resources there, and at the same time make the Kingdom of God your priority. Why not? Because where your treasure is, that’s where your heart is going to be. The two cannot be separated.

Some believers complain about their lack of passion for God. “I’m not feeling it,” they say. Perhaps the problem is that they need to start investing more in the Kingdom of heaven. That’s because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

At times, you can find yourself in a tough place in life. Being a Christian does not exempt you from that happening. You may at times feel as though you can’t endure what you are going through. But in this episode, Frank King explains that God knows our breaking point better than we do. He will not allow us to be taken beyond that point. Accordingly, in first his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul the apostle writes:

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Cor. 10:13, KJV).

Frank presents two points for us to bear in mind from this verse. One, God is faithful. He will not allow us to be tested above what we are able. And two, He will provide a way for us to be able to bear the test. These are two reasons we can endure what we may think we can’t when we find ourselves in a tough place in life.

In this episode, Frank King addresses the kind of preaching and teaching that helps believers to grow. In 1 Peter 2:2, Peter writes, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” So, why does he say you should do this? That you may grow thereby. The word “sincere” in this verse comes from a Greek word meaning undiluted, unmixed, pure.

The point is that believers can’t grow properly with diluted or watered down preaching and teaching. Yes, church leaders can grow a local church with watered down preaching. In fact, many people flock to place like that. But a congregation built on a diluted version of the Word of God will not be spiritually strong.

Based upon the words of Peter, any believer who seriously wants to grow properly will diligently seek to find a place of worship where the undiluted Word of God is faithfully preached and taught.

Perhaps you have been successful at doing the very thing or things you wanted to do in life. But being a person of faith, you may still be wondering about that higher calling. In other words, what is God's plan for your life?

Sad but true, many people believe we are born, we live, and then we die, end of story. But in this episode, Frank King explains that the Bible does not support that narrow-minded view of our existence.

In his second letter to Timothy, Paul writes that God has, “Saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (2 Tim. 1:9).

None of us simply happened. God didn't look down on the earth one day and say, “Oh my goodness, look at Jesse, look at Sheila; I don't know what to do with them.” God created us with a divine purpose.

So many people today are just drifting through life. They don't even have a sense of natural purpose for their life. They are just passing through this life. But our life was made to be lived and not just passed through. According to the verse, God had a purpose for our life before the world began.

It’s important that we seek to know what God’s plan is for our life. That may sound difficult since He seldom if ever speaks to us audibly. But He knows how to reveal His plan for our life in such a way that we can discern what it is.

Sanctification denotes being set apart for God. When we accepted Christ as our Savior, we were sanctified. That means we became dedicated to Him. We are no longer to live for ourselves but for Him. In other words, we became sanctified for God's use.

In this episode, Frank King addresses sanctification from two standpoints. One is the act of sanctification and the other is the process of sanctification. It was an act of God to sanctify us to make us His. The process of sanctification, on the other hand, is the means by which we grow to become more like Christ and more dedicated to God.

The question is, if God has already sanctified us, why do we need to sanctify ourselves? Because even though God has stamped us as His own, some Christians live like they don't belong to Him. And all of us can improve in that area. It is through this process of sanctification that we learn how to live a life that is separated to God as He has already decreed that we are.

A vital element of the sanctification process is the Word of God. Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17, KJV). How does the Bible help to sanctify us? The more we study the Word of God and the more we live by it, the more dedicated to God we will become. Hence, you can tell a lot about the impact the Word of God is having on a believer's life by his devotion to God or the lack thereof.

When you accept Christ as your personal Savior, that is the beginning of your journey with the Lord. Afterward, you are to walk with Him daily, cultivating your relationship with Him. In this episode, Frank King shares some food for thought on how to stand as a Christian.

This is an important subject because when we fail to stand as we should, there are usually consequences—to our finances, to our health, to our home life, etc. It’s never a good strategy in life to just go with the flow of life. You must know how to stand for the outcomes you want to see in your life.

In Paul’s first epistle to the church at Corinth, he reflects on a number of unwise acts of the children of Israel and the consequences they suffered. He writes, “Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1 Cor. 10:11, KJV). That would apply to us today.

This is such an important point for Paul to make. Even though Israel was under the Law and we are under Grace, we are dealing with the same God. The same things that displeased God in the OT also displease Him today. If that is not true, then how can we learn anything about the nature of God through reading our Bible? Hence, if we want to please Him with our life, we must heed the lessons learned that have been recorded in the Scriptures. They have been recorded for our admonition; for our warning.

Paul also warns about being overconfident of our ability to stand: “Let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall” (1 Cor. 10:12, NASB). We do well to heed this counsel if we want to stand for the Lord.

This episode is not solely a Mother’s Day message, but it aims to encourage mothers in particular in the area of prayer. In one of His parables, Jesus teaches on the importance of persistence in prayer. The parable involves a widow and an unjust judge. According to verse 2, the judge did not fear God, nor did he respect people. The woman wanted the judge to avenge her of her adversary. But again, he was a heartless judge.

To really grasp how powerful the message of this parable is, one should think about what Jesus does here. He juxtaposes a needy, helpless, and oppressed widow with a powerful, heartless judge. The widow’s only hope and weapon for such vast mismatch was her persistence. She was so persistent that even a wicked judge moved in her favor.

“Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me,” the judge said (Luke 18:4b, 5, JKV). His words reflect the power of persistence.

Frank King encourages mothers to be women of prayer. Of if they already are, to continue do so. Mothers, one of the most powerful weapons you have for your family and against the enemy is your prayer life. And remember to always pray and not to faint.

Perhaps, some of you mothers have children who are teens and/or young adults. They are living in a challenging and spiritually dark world. It behooves you to cover them with prayer.

Moms have a special bond with their children because they brought them into the world. When they pray for their children, they are not only praying with faith but also with compassion. In Gal. 5:6, Paul talks about faith that works by love. When a mother in Christ prays for her children, she prays with faith mixed with motherly love. And that’s a powerful thing.

Frank says Mothers should cover their children and their home at large with prayer, and don’t grow weary in praying for them. Jesus said, men—and women--should always pray and never give up.
