In a race, we are much less interested in the start, but we always want to know how it finished. Likewise, life isn't all about how you start; it's about how you finish. God wants us to put the past behind us and finish well.

God is a God of mission and by His Spirit we are empowered to take part in His mission!

God has always wanted to dwell with mankind - that was the plan from the very beginning, when He walked with Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden. Even after Adam & Eve sinned, God's presence was still in the midst of His people in the temple. Today, we are the temples of His presence. If we don't have God's presence, we have nothing!

If we stand at the foot of a mountain, all we can see are obstacles and boulders and struggles. But we are seated with Christ in heavenly places and therefore God wants our view to be from the mountain top. When we have this perspective – the one that reflects our identity as God's children – we see things as they really are, which brings heaven's joy, peace and freedom into our hearts and minds.

God has always wanted to dwell with His people – the Church is supposed to be the dwelling place of God today. That's what makes the Church unique from any other organisation on the face of the planet. The Church was never designed to operate in the self-sufficiency of men and women's abilities; we were designed to operate led and empowered by the Holy Spirit! Are you thirsty to encounter God?

As we look to what God has for us as a church in the future, one thing that remains vitally important and foundational is our reliance on the Bible, which it the authoritative Word of God, revealing to us what He is like and how He has created us to live.

God's grace to us is amazing and outrageous. We were dead in our trespasses – we had crossed into areas we should not have gone – but God rescued us! Jesus took all of our debt and we gained all of His riches! And this grace equips us to do the good works He has called us to do.

In the second part of our What's Next? series, we look at the shape of church life and what impact growth has on us, learning that structure isn't an enemy of the presence of God, but helps us to encounter Him.
