In the closing words of Matthew’s Gospel, the risen Jesus sends His disciples out with a clear and lasting charge: to make disciples of all nations, baptising them, and teaching them to obey all He has commanded. This is the mission of the Church in every generation. As we hear this passage, we are encouraged to consider our own part in that calling - whether at home, at work, and wherever we live - trusting in Christ’s authority and His promise to be with His people always until the end of the age.

By his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace has won us peace with God and each other and in ourselves. We take hold of this peace by his Holy Spirit.

In John 20:1-18, Mary Magdalene is the first to encounter the risen Jesus, and her story invites us to see the heart of the gospel more clearly. We see her deep devotion as she comes to the tomb while it is still dark, longing to be near her Lord even in grief. Yet we also see her confusion - she doesn’t understand what God has done, reminding us that resurrection hope is not something we grasp by our own insight, but receive by grace. Finally, when Jesus reveals himself to her, Mary is sent to tell the others. This message reminds us that the right response to meeting Jesus is devotion, we receive His revelation by grace, and we go with the message of life.

In Luke 24:13-27, two disciples are walking on the road to Emmaus, confused and discouraged after Jesus’ death. The risen Jesus comes alongside them, but they are kept from recognising Him. As they share their disappointment, Jesus challenges their understanding and explains how the Scriptures point to the Messiah’s suffering and glory. This passage shows that even when we don’t recognise Him, Jesus is present with His people, helping them understand God’s purposes through His Word.

In Ephesians 6:10-20, the Apostle Paul reminds believers that the Christian life is lived in the reality of spiritual warfare. Our struggle is not ultimately against people, but against spiritual forces of evil. Because of this, Paul calls us to “be strong in the Lord” and to stand firm by putting on the full armour of God. Each piece of armour points to gospel realities- truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God - that protect and equip God’s people. Alongside this, Paul emphasises constant prayer and dependence on the Spirit. As we stand firm in Christ and rely on His strength, the church is able to resist the enemy and boldly proclaim the good news of Jesus.

In Ephesians 5:21–33, the Apostle Paul shows that Christian marriage is shaped by the gospel. Husbands are called to love with costly, Christ-like sacrifice; wives are called to respond with willing, glad-hearted respect and submission - all flowing from “submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” The pattern is Jesus Christ himself: servant-hearted leadership, joyful trust, and self-giving love. When Christ fills a marriage, it becomes a living picture of Christ’s faithful love for His church.

In Ephesians 5:15-21, Paul urges believers to live wisely and intentionally, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Rather than living foolishly or being controlled by external influences, we are to understand the Lord’s will and be filled with the Spirit. A Spirit-filled life overflows in worship, gratitude, mutual encouragement, and humble submission to one another. This passage calls us to intentional, Spirit-led living that reflects Christ in every part of our daily lives.

In the Parable of the Sower Jesus warns that God’s Word can be choked by “the deceitfulness of wealth.” Riches promise security and satisfaction yet subtly draw our hearts away from trusting God and living for his kingdom. In this message from Mark 4:18–20, we’ll consider how money can compete for our allegiance and limit our spiritual fruitfulness - not because money is inherently evil, but because it so easily takes God’s place. Jesus also offers us a better way: hearts that receive the Word and bear lasting fruit. As we think about giving, we’re invited to respond in faith and generosity, trusting in God who gives us everything we need.
