Wisdom is all about relationships. From the time we are young, it is how we interact with the rest of the world that determines our potential and our impact. We must be wise in how we treat both ourselves and each other.

This week Justin Campbell continues our study in Proverbs, and emphasizes how Generosity is the foundation for relationship.

Discipline doesn’t always feel much like love, yet it is one of the ways God shows us we are especially favored. Proverbs 3 walks us through the steps a person must take if they wish to enter a life of blessing, followed with the ways God responds to us when we choose this path.

If you seek God, you’ll receive wisdom. If you seek true wisdom, you’ll end up finding God. All wisdom is a gift from God, yet when we receive it, we find ourselves equipped to avoid many painful situations, and well-grounded to endure what we can’t avoid. To forget our devotion to God is to build a house with a leaky roof on a collapsing foundation.

An important companion for life is personified in Proverbs as Lady Wisdom. She offers great promise to those who learn to listen, but she will show no sympathy for those who have scorned her free offer of insight. Proverbs invites us to accept God’s free offer of guidance and help.

It is important to treat others as you want to be treated, because when you harm others, you ultimately end up harming yourself. This lesson from Proverbs 1 is about the importance of choosing good companions, because your companions may well determine your destiny.

We are so glad the Campbells have arrived and are starting to get into the flow of things. Though he was equal with God, Jesus did not come to us in a way that exploited his power. He came to us as a child, in need of our hospitality. We see in the stories surrounding his birth that to be “favored” by God can have unique challenges, but also incredible blessings.
