Sammy is the funny one. If one of her girls doesn't like a guy in the room, she's the first to volunteer to spill a drink on him — though she'll tell you her real method is closer to "a little cyberbullying" and some not-so-subtle hints that it's time to go, buddy. She has a six-month-old miniature dachshund named Frank the Tank who has, allegedly, the personality of Frank Gallagher from Shameless. She has read the Harry Potter series twelve times and will out-trivia you on it. She would rather meet her man at a grocery store than on an app. She has one pump-the-brakes rule and it is aspiring EDM DJs — a rule she comes by honestly, since her last ex became one.
Kween Sammy is 28, from Lakeville and about to move to Minneapolis, an IT sales pro who makes her money, in her words, off of yapping. She's a Harry Potter trivia champion and a Marvel super fan. The one thing she wants someone to teach her this summer is pickleball — a detail that is going to matter more than anyone in the room expects. She's looking for someone kind, someone funny enough to keep up with her, and someone who actually knows how to make a plan.
Three blind dates. Ten minutes each. One second date on the line. And a Shoot Your Shot that changed the whole math.
Date 1: Gerry — 28, solar engineer by day, karaoke singer by night, from Anoka, the self-proclaimed Halloween Capital of the World. Two Maine Coon cats named Rocky and Apollo. Wants to see all twenty regions of Italy before he's old, which he thinks is 30. Walked out to the most explicit song Mac Miller ever made and somehow stayed wholesome the entire time.
Date 2: Andrew — 32, anesthesiologist from Duluth, Timberwolves diehard, converted Vikings fan. Told her that standing on this stage was more nerve-wracking than someone actively dying on his operating table. Then her dad walked up and hit him with the dishes trap. He answered by quoting The Office.
Date 3: David — 27, former history teacher turned benefits consultant, titanium rod in his leg, passport full of stamps. Reads Harry Potter, calls himself "a lot like a dachshund," and once backed into his own dad's car and denied it to his face. Self-preservation, he says.
Then the floor opened for Shoot Your Shot, and one man walked up who wasn't even supposed to be there. A pro pickleball player who teaches right here at Life Time, runs an IT firm, and watched the same Italy show Gerry did — and in about two minutes he offered her pickleball lessons, a job, and a trip to Italy. She'd said all she wanted this summer was to learn pickleball. Then she had to choose.
Hosted by Tobi Shamu. Live on the rooftop at Life Time Edina. DNP x Life Time, Episode 1.
