Tom’s writing includes many of the things that he’s into: suits, bondage, humiliation, dishevelment, and more. All of these factor into werewolf fantasies that Tom discusses, where men’s bodies turn against them as they transform into something bigger and hairier. As once distinguished men become uncontrollable beasts, they might need to be restrained for everyone’s safety and their pristine clothing turns into tattered rags. However, when the once powerful monster returns to his human form, he’s often left confused, exposed, and embarrassed.

Over the past few decades, Castro’s photography has been shown in a number of exhibitions, books, magazines, etc. In 2004, he published 13 Years of Bondage: The Photography of Rick Castro, which depicts leather-clad street hustlers in bondage. He also wrote and directed Hustler White (1996) with Bruce LaBruce, and directed a number of other short films and documentaries, including MTV’s Plushies & Furries (2001). His work is collected by the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives at the USC Libraries, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, and the Tom of Finland Foundation.
