CWO3 Ama M. Adair, United States Navy
CWO3 Adair grew up in the state of Ohio, graduated from High School in 1997, and enrolled as a theater major at the Ohio State University the following year. Driven by the events of 9/11, she enlisted in the Navy and began Recruit training on 28 September 2001. She completed IS “A” School in April 2002 and reported to her first command, Special Projects Patrol Squadron One (VPU-1) in Brunswick, Maine.
While attached to VPU-1 she maintained a 50 percent operational tempo and supported numerous missions in locations throughout both the CENTCOM and PACOM AORs. She was the most junior person to qualify to deploy as the sole intelligence support for the aircrews.
In September 2005, she transferred to NMITC for instructor duty. While attached to the “A” school, she was offered the opportunity to be a student in the first combined Navy and Marine Corps class of the MAGTF CI/HUMINT course, class 06-01. After graduation from the course, CWO3 Adair was reassigned to Naval Special Warfare Group Two, Little Creek, VA. This billet was one of many that officially transferred to Naval Special Warfare Support Activity Two when it commissioned in 2007.
During her time with Naval Special Warfare (NSW), CWO3 Adair was the first Tactical CI/HUMINT Operator for the community, and the first female collector. She deployed four times in support of SEAL Teams from 2006 to 2010. During her time with NSW she filled many roles including N2X, Reports Officer, Military Source Operator, Interrogator, Senior Analyst, Task Force liaison, and Foreign Disclosure Officer. Her efforts earned her the honor of being the 2008 Intelligence Specialist of the year, and her selection to Chief Petty Officer in 2009. In January 2011, a then ISC Adair, returned to NMITC to complete her instructor tour and became the LCPO for the MAGTF CI/HUMINT course.
CWO3 Adair checked into NEIC in June 2014 where she attended the Joint HUMINT Officers Course, and was afforded the opportunity lead the first team of Navy CI/HUMINT Sailors to be granted authority to conduct counterintelligence activities in coordination with NCIS. This collaboration provided critical real-world support to BOLD ALLIGATOR 2014, and resulted in enhanced collaboration between NCIS and the Navy CI community. She also deployed twice as an Intelligence Exploitation Team LCPO in support of the EUCOM and AFRICOM mission sets.
In 2016, she selected as a Chief Warrant Officer. After completing “Mustang U” she went to Coastal Riverine Squadron Two as the N2 Department Head, and deployed to FIFTH Fleet. Upon return, she returned to NSW as the Group Ten Intelligence Directorate operations and training officer.
In 2020, the Warrant Officer community realigned and CWO3 Adair was selected to fill a critically gapped capability as the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command’s (NECC) N2X as her twilight tour. During her time with NECC she completely revitalized their CI/HUMINT program, developed a CI Analyst PQS, and broke from status quo and built an organic CI Support Element – a first for NECC.
Personal awards and qualifications include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Army Achievement Medal and various service and unit awards. She holds the 3X1 and 3X2 AQDs and an Associate’s Degree in Media Communications. CWO3 Adair volunteers in support of DeliverFund, and is also a published author, writing thrillers under the name A. M. Adair.
