Welcome to Kitzur Yomi with Yossi!
In today's episode, the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch teaches that whenever there is uncertainty about the presence of excrement or urine in an area, one should not recite holy words until the place has been checked.
If there is a possibility that the area is not suitable for prayer, Torah study, or other sacred matters, a person must first verify that the location is clean and appropriate.
The Kitzur also teaches that one should not pray in a house where there is filth in the attic or on another floor above, as the presence of such impurity affects the sanctity of the environment used for prayer.
At first glance, this halacha appears to be about physical cleanliness and certainty.
But the Torah is teaching us something much deeper:
When holiness matters, assumptions are not enough.
In many areas of life, people operate on guesses, assumptions, and wishful thinking. The Torah teaches that when it comes to serving Hashem, we should strive for clarity.
If there is a doubt, we investigate.
If there is uncertainty, we seek truth.
This principle extends far beyond prayer. In relationships, business, personal growth, and spiritual life, many mistakes happen because people assume rather than verify.
The Kitzur reminds us that integrity begins with a willingness to examine reality before acting.
• Do not recite holy words in a place that may contain impurity.
• Verify the facts before proceeding when there is doubt.
• Prayer requires an environment suitable for holiness.
• Assumptions can lead to mistakes.
• Clarity and truth are essential parts of serving Hashem.
Today, notice where you may be operating on assumptions.
Is there a conversation you need to have, a fact you need to check, or a situation you need to understand more clearly?
Often, growth begins when we replace assumptions with awareness.
