Eight people died Thursday after the charter plane they were flying in crashed on a remote cape in Southwest Alaska. Alaska authors say there's still hope for this year's Arctic Report Card, after the federal government pulls funding. And bumblebee scientists were in Unalaska this summer, addressing the lack of data about the island’s bees.

Alaska will have two candidates named Dan Sullivan on the November ballot for U.S. Senate, as well as Democrat Mary Peltola. Two Democrats and two Republicans are leading in early primary election results in the race for governor. Residents of the eastern Interior community of Tok are being ordered to evacuate their homes after a wildfire broke out yesterday morning. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will go through a bidding process like the TV show “Shark Tank,” to select a partner to end Juneau’s glacial outburst floods. And the Alaska Marine Highway System announced that all state ferry service to Skagway was stopped until “further notice.”
