  • A Passion for Caregiving Leads to A Career of Service and Finding Myself Again
Joan shares a journey of struggle to a life of joy. as she states: 'I have always worked in caregiving professions.  Out of college for 7 years in group homes for special gifted adults, then in Activities in nursings facilities for 18 years, and now as a case worker for seniors in the community. In all the years of caregiving I have learned the importance of self care, for if you are empty you have nothing to give to others.'

  • A Story of Heroism in Everyday Life
Today’s guest has lived through difficulties in life, and has risen to a place of joy and service to others. Jeffrey Hayzlett is a prime-time TV and podcast host, keynote speaker, best-selling author, and global business celebrity. On today’s episode, he shares some nuggets of wisdom on how to get through the day to day trials and tribulations of life, as well as a discussion on his involvement with C-Suite.
Consider/Ask: Radical Mindset MusingsJeffrey’s childhood was heavily influenced by the war, as his dad was in the military. His family was never really poor, but they weren’t rich either. When his father was gone, he took on the responsibilities of the man of the house.Work can be a vice - some people are alcoholics, but Jeffrey is a workaholic. It can be hard; you have to learn when it’s getting dangerous. His parents split at a young age, and it was hard to watch different men come into his mother’s life; it distorted his image of what a home should look like, and made him feel on the outside of things.Being able to seek your own hobbies and reach out and connect with other people who allow us to feel good about who we are, helps us form the building blocks of resilience. In everything that we do, there is a customer and a performance. This changes in given situations, and you have to consider your conditions of satisfaction in each.Treat others the way you want to be treated: if I treat you one way, you should be able to treat me that way.Jeffrey’s depression is seasonal - he has learned to look out for different times of the year so he can anticipate those times and how to cope with it. To be able to take care of ourselves during the times when depression sets in, we have to take care of ourselves during all the other times as well. This can be eating well, or giving ourselves time to get away. Jeffrey discusses some of the points of his marriage that make his and his wife’s relationship so healthy. The more you give and the more you serve, the more you get back. Benefits of C-Suite: education and the shortcuts you learn as part of it, network outside of your own community, and access to capital.
Revolutionary Leader's Mantra: Don’t dwell too much on the past. It shapes who we are, but it doesn’t define us in term of what we will be or what we really are. We can always change that.

  • Finding Clarity in Wanderlust
Greg Anderson, author photography artist, and world traveler, among many other things, joins Kristie on the podcast today. Greg experienced a lot of different places during his childhood, and a lot of different career choices throughout his adulthood. In this episode, Greg shares the struggles of his journey, building resilience and getting clarity in your life.
    Consider/Ask: Radical Mindset Musings
    ·      From an early age, Greg had to learn to adapt to new places and meeting new people. His many moves throughout his childhood demystified adaptation and encountering strangers.·      He worked through the fear of the formative years through wanderlust, and being in a different place four years in a row. While he didn’t know at the time, he was acquiring soft skills that would benefit him later in life.·      Travelling helps us discover the ways we are different from each other, but also spotlights the way we are all the same.·      For creative individuals, it can be really depleting to be so invested in the corporate or business side of things. It can be a challenge to be good at something you don’t particularly enjoy. This makes it easy to miss the fact that you might not be on the right path.·      It’s important to get back to what feeds you in an intrinsic and internal way, rather than a creature comfort way.·      When you’re not doing the thing that you were put on earth to do, there is a discomfort there that you can’t always place. It ends up becoming an impediment to enjoying other things in life – relationships, extracurricular activities, etc.·      Greg experienced some separation anxiety and depression that led him to experience a sense of panic. This, along with not being connected to what he was doing, fed off each other to affect both his personal and professional life.·      Greg’s separation anxiety exacerbated the tumultuous nature of puberty in high school and also led to feelings of depression.·      In Greg’s darkest times, he was tired, exhausted, and didn’t have much fight left in him. His pain manifested itself physically. There was no care of love for himself or living life.·      Strength and resilience came from the mentality that you don’t walk off the field until the game is over.·      To overcome, there has to be a persistence to just do the work. Sometimes that means getting out of bed and going to work, or meeting with a therapist. There is always something to find that’s beautiful or life affirming or sustaining. You have to have your eyes open enough to see them when they come by.·      It can take a while to realize the nature of our creativity. Creativity is all about telling stores; the medium is secondary.
Revolutionary Leader's Mantra: Greg’s mantra comes from a poem he’s always cherished: You are a child of the universe and you have a right to be here. Whether or not it’s clear to you, the universe is unfolding as it should. We’re a tiny speck in a big universe.
He travels with a copy of this poem everywhere he goes.
