  • Exploring The Soul - 16 - Adam's Secret
Exploring The Soul - Part 16
    "Adam's Secret"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on July 2, 2017)
Adam had a secret. A secret the serpent was unaware of. A secret not even Eve knew about.
This secret would both haunt and inspire Adam. In the worst of times it was a reminder of his failings. In the best of times it was a reminder of the heights he could yet scale.
Adam's secret may have been known to him, but it remained hidden for millennia. So it remained until the late 1500s, when a renowned mystic in Israel revealed it to the world. In retrospect the answer was there the whole time, hiding in plain site. Right in his name...
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we reveal Adam's secret, and explore its inspiring message for each one of us.

  • Exploring The Soul - 15 - The Forehead
Exploring The Soul - Part 15
    "The Forehead"
(Recorded at the Intown Jewish Academy on June 25, 2017)
The mystics teach that there are two dimensions to the human being: the human, and the non-human. There is a layer of our being that is rational, natural, and predictable, and then there is a layer that is suprarational, non-conforming, and spontaneous. In other words -- not in the limited modality of being "human."
This deeper dimension defies standard human definition. In Kabbalistic terminology, it's like the difference between the forehead and the face: whereas the face contains easily distinguishable features of the person, the forehead is a blank slate. Open to possibilities, open to the unknown.
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee we explore the mystical secrets of the forehead.

  • Torah Studies 5777 - 35 - Chukat (Because I Said So)
    Because I Said So
Finding Meaning in the Laws of Ritual Purity
It may seem superstitious: Enter the wrong house or touch the wrong thing and the Torah renders you impure. Dip in the holy water and -- Voilà! -- you’re good as new. What are we to make of this system? With this question as its backdrop, this lesson sheds light on the meaning of connection with G-d and doing what He wants.
