Join acclaimed spiritual guide Mrs. Nomi Freeman as we transport through time to visit Chasidic legends such as the Baal Shem Tov, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev, Reb Elimelech of Lizensk, Reb Zushe of Anipoli, and the Alter Rebbe, and reveal the mindsets of these great masters.

  • Overcoming Folly - 48 - How Free is Free Choice
    Overcoming Folly - Part 48
    "How Free is Free Choice"
    With Rabbi Ari Sollish
(Recorded live at the Intown Jewish Academy on January 30, 2022)
Free choice is one of the foundational principles of Judaism. Maimonides notes that if we take away the notion of free choice, the very edifice of Torah and mitzvot ceases to be relevant. After all, if we simply cannot be expected to follow a given precept, then what's the point of being mandated to do so?
Yet, the idea that you and I are truly free to choose as we wish is likewise questionable. Are we really free to choose as we wish? How do we reconcile human choice with Divine omniscience? And if human agency is granted unconditionally, is it ever possible to determine what is absolutely "right" or "wrong"?
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee, we dive headfirst into the mystery that is free choice. We explore the role of human agency through the lens of the great Jewish philosophers and mystics. Along the way, we learn dazzling insights into the purpose of life -- and our role in its achievement.

    Overcoming Folly - Part 47
    "Pit of Doom"
    With Rabbi Ari Sollish
(Recorded live at the Intown Jewish Academy on January 23, 2022)
Life is not without its ups and downs. But sometimes we trip and fall into a big pit, a hole that pulls us down far below.
The pit of doom is an equal-access danger. No one is immune to it, no matter how great one might be. Actually, the greater one is the more susceptible they are to falling hard...
In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee, we explore the spiritual meaning of the pit of doom. We learn about the vices that niggle at us and our dangerous dance with temptation. And we discover the most treacherous voice of all -- the one that threatens to take us all the way down. Knowing this will empower us to walk our path with confidence!
