The Fig Tree …….. Please read: Luke 13.1-13

At times in history people have believed that there was a direct link between sin and suffering. In this passage Jesus refutes this reasoning and calls the people to repent.

⦁ What do you see as the relationship between sin and suffering?

⦁ How do we view those who are physically disabled?

⦁ The man was prepared to tend the tree for one year. Was that long enough or was he giving up too soon?

⦁ How do we look on those who are struggling spiritually? Are we prepared to give tender loving care to those who struggle?

⦁ How does Jesus respond to the suffering he encounters?

In this passage Jesus paints a stark picture of Herod as a fox, the people as chicks with himself as the mother hen protecting them with her wings.

⦁ Why do you think Jesus was concerned about Jerusalem ? ( 1 Kings 19:10, 2 Chronicles 24:19 )

⦁ Herod and the Pharisees did not determine the direction of Jesus’ mission, life and work. Who or what did?

⦁ Jesus says Jerusalem was ‘not willing’ or would not allow him to gather the people together. Is there a message for us today in those words of Jesus?
