Few species are as widely recognizable as Australia's koala. Despite its iconic status and reams of studies, there is much we don't know about this species and the threats to its survival. Her new book Koala: a natural history and an uncertain future (W.W. Norton & Company) released this month examines their behavior, physiology, and complex relationship with the "distinctive" trees upon which they depend.
