Join David for a conversation with David and Đorđe from Tempus Finance. Tempus is building the DeFi native version of interest rate swaps powered by an Automated Market Maker (AMM). It is a protocol used for risk reallocation between different market participants who are exposed to the same assets.

In traditional finance, interest rate swaps are highly customised, non-collateralised and made between a counter party and the bank. In DeFi, non collateralised interest rate swaps haven't been achievable because you need to know who the counter party is. Tempus is solving this problem.

Everyone interacts with interest rate swaps in TradFi in some form or another. For example, in a fixed-rate mortgage there are interest rate swaps between your bank and its counter-parties. Since their mainstream adoption in the 1970s, interest rate swaps have grown to be the largest kind of derivative in TradFi. Judging from this market evolution, as the DeFi market matures, Tempus is well positioned to capture the market demand.

Auryn is product lead at Gnosis, who are building new market mechanisms for decentralised finance as well as DAO tooling. He goes into detail about the meritocratic rise of DAOs, as well as the benefits of their transparency for particular organisations. "Longevity has the potential to be to traditional medicine what crypto is to traditional finance." Balaji Srinivasan, 2021 (@balajis).

Tyler Golato is co-founder of VitaDAO, which is shifting the paradigm on the science of ageing by prioritising research into preventative and pre-emptive medical interventions.

Some longevity researchers contest that the first person to live to 1,000 is alive today. Tyler is more modest in his prediction but maintains that longevity research will unlock vast advancements in human life span.

Currently, it is more profitable for businesses to manage chronic conditions than to cure them leaving little incentive for longevity research funding. VitaDAO seeks to remedy this by offering a decentralised framework to fund, research, and commercialise longevity projects.

They are a decentralised community of academics, researchers, service providers and individuals that are utilising the DAO framework to democratise the BioPharma industry. The first of its kind, VitaDAO is a fascinating use case for future deployments of the model in the medical industry and beyond.

Tyler also goes into detail about his company Molecule (co-founded with Paul Kohlhaas (@paulkhls)), a framework that enables DAO revolution in Biopharma. Molecule aims to allow decentralised entities to interact with intellectual property to fractionalise it, effectively decentralising drug development.

Cameron Robertson is bridging the gap between the real world and crypto by reducing the friction between the Meatspace and Metaverse.

2017 was when Cameron first had his eye on crypto, in particular, he was interested in hardware wallets. By observing this space, he noticed that the people developing and using this technology were tech natives and therefore, the innovation was tailored for their skill level, leaving a large unaddressed market gap for those who were not. With a background in hardware and a commitment to drive the mass adoption of Ethereum, Cameron went all in on and started building accessible crypto experiences.

First came Kong Cash, bringing crypto to a physical medium that everybody understands, cash. Next came collaborations with Metafactory and Mattereum bridging the gap between Ethereum and consumer good. Now comes Kong land, a DAO focused on providing hardware support for any project looking to make the bridge between the Meatspace and Metaverse. Over time, Cameron has realised that their grand vision is more-so to present a framework on how things could be made to exist in the real world. They don't necessarily have to build them all.
