  • impossible foods, animal testing & the controversy
welcome to episode five of kombucha hour. in today's episode we will be discussing the contraversy surrounding the new impossible burger whopper at burger king and their animal testing. this is a hot topic in the vegan community as of late. some vegans believe you are not vegan if you consume the burger, some vegans believe you are plant based if you consume it and others see a bigger picture. in the first half of the episode, i discuss the actual study conducted on animals (rats) in order for impossible foods to receive their GRAS certification through the FDA. i also give tips on how to order vegan at most fast food chains. around 43:33 i start to give my personal opinion on the impossible burger, their brand & how i feel as a vegan about their testing on animals. towards the end around 1:07:38, i discuss the frustration associated with living in a non vegan world that is full of everyday products that have ingredients that were once tested on animals. so sit back, grab a kombucha and enjoy the episode!

  • PETA's banned superbowl ad & the politics of black veganism
episode four: this week's episode is all about the controversial banned superbowl commerical from the animal rights organization PETA, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA decided to use the famous protest style: kneeling, coined by former 49ers quarterback, Colin Kapernick, as a way to advocate against speciesism. everyone has different views on the ad that never made it to the superbowl and we discuss those perspectives in my longest episode to date. 1:00:00 we discuss different historical black liberation organizations that have intersected veganism with black rights such as the MOVE organization, founded by John Africa. Towards 1:18:00 we get into the politics of black veganism and the fast food industry. Around 1:22:00, we get into more detail with specific examples of how Mcdonalds has capitalized off black culture. Sit back, grab a kombucha and come be friend!!

  • coronavirus, james charles & white mistakes
episode three: welcome back and happy black history months lovies!!
episode 3 dissects all the racism, discrimination and prejudice behaviors western countries have been casting on their asian community. how the lasting effects of racism during these types of outbreaks lasts longer than the actual disease and virus itself. we talk about Ebola, SARS, MERS & more!!
towards the end of the podcast we talk about a phrase i coined called “white mistakes”. a white mistake is when a white person makes or commits a racially insensitive comment or act, has grown from it but still contributed to the ever lasting negative effects on the oppressed.
sit back, grab your drinks and let’s be friends!! tag me @kombuchahour📸 of you drinking out of your wine glasses (with whatever substance suits your fancy) and ill repost you on my IG!!
