----English----
TGIF! You're getting yourself ready to leave the office, but all of the sudden your boss suggests a company dinner together.
You've got friends waiting to go out with you and other appointments on your agenda, but you agree to participate in the dinner in fear of being called a 'traitor' for not participating in a company event.
If you don't give any thoughts to company dinners, they may seem like a fun, harmless time to enjoy grilled meat with your colleagues—however, things aren't usually that simple, and you should always be on your guard.
People might start talking and asking questions, or give advice regarding your work throughout the dinner, so in actuality, it is an extension of work although it takes place outside the office.
However, there is one thing that appears in every dinner gathering which you must watch out for as it will do its best to loosen you up.
That's right, it's alcohol, and usually "soju" and beer are served during the first 'round' of your company gathering, which is usually "samgyupsal" (pork belly barbecue.)
The manager might thank your labor for the week and offer to fill your glass; just remember that there are some drinking manners that you must keep in mind.
First, when someone older, or more senior than you, offers to fill your glass, you must hold it with both hands.
When you take the drink, you need to turn your head away from your senior.
Also, it is good to remember that you might offend someone (especially your seniors) of you strongly reject their offer to fill your glass.
Remember that you will need to return the favor and that you will need to hold the alcohol bottle with both hands if you are pouring for someone older than you, or for your senior.
When the first round of the company dinner is over, some may head home, but most will usually participate in round two and three.
While it is important to participate in the company gatherings to establish good personal relations, bear in mind that you should try not to exceed your drinking limit as it is bad for your health. Plus, you wouldn't want to go into the office the next day with an awful hangover.
In addition, you should never forget that you are not excused for any tardiness or mistakes during work the day after, even if the gathering lasted 'til the wee hours of the morning.
