He tells the story of a young man struggling with a girlfriend who keeps going out socially with her "guy friends".

He's uncomfortable with it, and she's defensive about it.  It's wrecking their relationship.

Sometimes people who want out of a relationship will try to blow up the relationship instead of just leaving.  So they will create situations that force the issue.  Cheating is an example of behavior that may be designed to blow up the relationship.

It's better to be honest with your partner about where you are in the relationship.  It's hard.  You can be in love with someone but still know the relationship has expired.
