In this Podcast Hennes Bender talked to Lennart Oberscheidt and Britta Lerch about the storyLab kiU, a digital research and presentation centre of the FH Dortmund in the Dortmunder U. They also discussed questions about the future of arts and culture in increasing digital times, immersion and the possibilities and challenges.

Lennart, born in 1987, discovered his interest for 3D and film at school. In the early 2000s he began to create 3D graphics in his spare time and became a professional Visual Effects Artist shortly after. Having worked on various feature film and TV productions in this capacity, Lennart decided to study film at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2010. Since his B.A. graduation at FH Dortmund Lennart works as Technical Director and Supervisor for Visual Effects and Virtual Reality at storyLab kiU while also continuing his work as a VFX freelancer.

A talk with Hennes Bender and Britta Lerch and Lennart Oberscheidt about page21, an immersive art project for the development of new digital narrative worlds co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of Northrhine-Westphalia. They also discussed questions about the future of arts and culture in increasing digital times, immersion and the possibilities and challenges. 

With a background in marketing management, communication and social psychology, Britta has spent the last 17 years working as a concept developer, strategic advisor and project manager for agencies, companies and the cultural sector. From 2016 to 2020 she was the overall project coordinator for the European audience development project smARTplaces, which she also co-developed. She is further deepening her passion for innovative approaches for audience engagement and the digital in her current role as the project manager for “page21” at the Dortmunder U, an experimental digital art project of the storyLab kiU, the Museum Ostwall and the Museum for Art and Cultural History Dortmund.

Im Gespräch mit Hennes Bender berichtet Ines Rainer über CREATIVE.Spaces, eine Auszeichnung von CREATIVE.NRW die das Engagement und die Arbeit der Kreativnetzwerke in Nordrhein-Westfalen würdigt, und über ''Die Gamechanger'', eine Filmreihe über kreative Orte und ihre kreativen Lösungen in der aktuellen Pandamie-Situation. Darüber hinaus werden die aktuellen Problematiken und Bedarfe der Kreativwirtschaft, die Wichtigkeit eines Austausches innerhalb der Kreativszene sowie Best Practices aus NRW thematisiert. 

Ines Rainer war fünf Jahre als Redakteurin bei einer Kölner Fernsehproduktionsfirma tätig und hat verschiedene Formate für den WDR recherchiert, geplant und umgesetzt. 2012 gründete sie den Verein Foodsharing mit, war dort im Vorstand aktiv, bis sie 2014 das Start-up The Good Food mit initiierte. Seit Januar 2017 unterstützt sie das Team von CREATIVE.NRW und ist dort hauptsächlich verantwortlich für Veranstaltung und die Betreuung der CREATIVE.Spaces.

Rahmenbedingungen für die Arbeit von Kunst- und Kulturschaffenden im digitalen Raum

Die Einschränkungen des analogen Raums und damit des Arbeitens im analogen Raum sind für viele KünstlerInnen und Kulturschaffende stark spürbar. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden analoge Arbeitsmodelle der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft in die digitale Welt übersetzt. Hier bieten sich an vielen Stellen Chancen bekannte Arbeitsweisen zu verändern und zu erweitern, um Bekanntes zu optimieren oder etwas gänzlich Neues auszuprobieren. Dabei ist es von besonderer Bedeutung die Bedingungen des digitalen Arbeitens im digitalen Raum zu verstehen und in das neue Arbeiten mit einzubeziehen.

 

Auf der Tagung des Kulturrates NRW im Jahr 2018 mit dem Titel „Digitale Kultur / Kultur des Digitalen“ wurden besondere Anforderungen an KünstlerInnen und Kulturschaffende analysiert und ein Paper mit Forderungen zur Digitalisierung des Kulturlebens erarbeitet. Wie ist der Stand der Umsetzung der Forderungen heute? An welchen Stellen müssen jetzt in der Krise die Weichen gestellt werden, um KünstlerInnen und Kulturschaffenden eine gute Basis für eine erfolgreiche Digitalisierung zu bieten? 

Matthias Hornschuh, der die Tagung mit kuratierte und die Tageszusammenfassung übernahm, beleuchtet den Status Quo und die Herausforderungen der nahen Zukunft an die Kunst-, Kultur-, und Kreativwirtschaft. 

Im Gespräch mit dem Moderator Hennes Bender erörtert Hornschuh unter anderem die Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie und die Herausforderungen die künstlerisch-kreatives Arbeiten im digitalen Raum begleiten. Zentrales Thema ist dabei die Bedeutung von rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen für die Arbeit von Kunst- und Kulturschaffenden im digitalen Raum, die auf politischer Ebene ausgehandelt werden müssen.

Setting a legal framework for the work of artists and creatives in the digital space

Many artists and actors in the cultural and creative industries suffer from the restrictions in the analog world during the covid-19 pandemic. Translating their work into the digital world seems to be the most favored option to reach their audience. 

In this podcast Hennes Bender interviews Matthias Hornschuh, composer, activist, and member of the cultural council of North Rhine-Westphalia to bring some light into the topic.

Leading questions are: What is to be thought of if you work in the digital space and what framework should be implemented to ensure a safe way of working in the digital world for artists? What should be the role of politics in this context? And what can artists and creatives do to communicate their interests to politics?
