Freelancers: They work their own hours, they get the final say in what the pay rate is, and–most importantly–they are making a living off of doing what they love. I think many, if not all, creatives have at one point or another contemplated freelancing full-time. Unfortunately, the world isn’t ready to fork over buckets of money just because you really like doing something.

Noah Lhomi got his first camera shortly after graduating high school in Nepal. It was a simple point-and-shoot type model, but once he started taking pictures he was hooked. Today he works as a filmmaker, photographer, and graphic designer at Shoreline Church in Austin, TX. In this episode he shares his story and how film, photography, and graphic design don’t necessarily have to be considered separate fields.

Sei Kuwahara started out as an auto mechanic in Japan. During a humanitarian trip to Kiribati, Sei worked closely with videographer Tay Steele. He was so inspired by the work they did there, that shortly after returning he decided to give videography a try.

Today Sei runs his own videography business, Kuwahara Film Productions. He has made videos for local businesses as well as for private events. In this episode he shares how powerful video can be in sharing stories.

*Note: “Ojiichan” is Japanese for “grandpa.” We use this to poke fun at Sei sometimes. It’s all done in good fun, of course.

Esther Candari graduated from BYU-Hawaii in 2017 with a BFA in painting and a double minor in photography and sculpture. Since then her work has been featured all over the country. In addition to her art career, she is pursuing an MFA in painting at Liberty University while working as an assistant registrar at the Fralin Museum of of Art.

In this episode of the Creative Corner she tells us how she went from an aspiring marine biologist to a successful artist. Parts of her journey included falling asleep on an art table, returning with honor to a cancelled major, and asking a beautiful stranger for permission to paint her.

For our first podcast interview I got the chance to sit down with the hosts of Geekathlon Podcast, Bassett and Ryan. They’ve been running a successful podcast for a little over two years now, and cover all things related to geek culture.
