KTVU's Pam Cook hosts today's headlines:
- This weekend, two people drowned in Russian River just hours apart. The drownings were at two different locations, the first near Monte Rio Beach and the second near Martinelli Beach.
- Police shot and killed a person at a park in North San Jose. Officers were called to Cataldi Park at about 3:30 PM on Sunday, to reports of a stabbing.
- Seven people are recovering in the hospital after a crash in Fairfield, yesterday around 4:30 AM in the eastbound direction of Interstate 80. Four vehicles were involved in the crash, the cause is still under investigation.
- On Thursday morning, a 19-year-old woman is recovering while she was shot in the head while driving on 680 in Alamo on her way home. She noticed she was being followed after leaving a concert at Levi's Stadium. The woman says the suspect shot at her car at least five times, no one has been identified or arrested in the case. The CHP is hoping to hear from witnesses who may have seen what happened.
- Brentwood business owners are wondering if police underestimated a "takeover" of the streets in a popular shopping area. The incident was promoted on social media for several days before it took place on Friday afternoon. Video posted online shows more than 300 teenagers gathered at the San Creek Crossing Shopping Center and nearby stores. There were several fights, ransacked businesses, and four arrests on misdemeanor violations.
- Today, members of the Teamsters Union are expected to meet with its employer to hopefully reach an agreement to end the garbage strike in the area. Despite the discussions, the work stoppage is expected to continue. The labor dispute with Republic Services has affected Union City, Half Moon Bay, Piedmont, and parts of West Contra Costa County.
- The California State Fair kicks off this week, and crowds are cruising to the Capitol to catch a new attraction. This year, a Low Rider exhibit will be featured to celebrate its artistry, identity, and history. The fair runs through Sunday, July 27th.
