The Friday ReFresh

Kudzu

Listen Later

Kudzu. I’m fairly sure you have heard of it. If you live in the United States or Japan I’m almost certain you’ve seen it. If you live in the South it’s just a part of your culture. The group Alabama starts one of their songs with the lyrics “it’ll creep up on you like a kudzu vine….”

An Iuka Mississsippi based classic country radio station is called Kudzu 104.9.

And the nickname for one of the most invasive plants in the world is affectionately called “the Vine that ate the South.”

Most people in the south consider kudzu an annoyance and wonder what people were thinking when they introduced it to help control erosion. We traded erosion for a plant that would conceal an entire army on a small hillside.

Most people don’t introduce negative things into their lives for the negativity. They introduce them into their lives because they have some benefit—most of the time it’s simply disguised as a benefit but not a true one.

Consider the consequences before you take actions that you know might have a price you don’t want to pay.

Be careful….it’ll creep up on you like a kudzu vine.
