… Russia is also stationed in Syria and has been involved for years, as has Turkey, but that is
not so important, because it only really cares about the Kurds, who were actually already
separated by the British and French, partly to Turkey, Persia and Iraq. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
who was the actual founder of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, promised the Kurds autonomy
after the world war from 1914 to 1918, but this was only to win them over to his political side.
Immediately after his promise, however, he showed what he actually wanted, namely to
integrate the Kurds unconditionally into the Turkish nation, which he wanted to achieve by
assimilating the Kurds by force, but which the Kurds are still resisting today.
