"The practice of city planning has largely been reduced to zoning, a way of categorizing the world into homogenous blocks, primarily for ease of regulation and transportation, the latter being the primary way we facilitate growth within our cities. What both professions have in common is that they view cities as complicated, but not complex. There is a massive difference, and it's critical to explaining why our modern cities are so fragile. Something that is complicated can have many moving parts."
