In this episode, I talked to Ned Blackhawk. He's a University of Washington graduate and a history professor at Yale University, who won this past year's National Book Award in nonfiction, among other honors for his latest book.

It's titled "The Rediscovery of America, Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U. S. History." It offers perspective on questions about citizenship and the shaping of what America is today through the power, agency, and survival of indigenous peoples. Blackhawk includes the history of indigenous people in the Pacific Northwest, such as the oldest continuously operating Native American boarding school, which is in Salem, Oregon.
