A Philadelphia street sweeper was taken to the hospital after his truck got caught in an overhanging wire in West Philadelphia.

PECO said the wire was not an electrical line; it was a communication line.

It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday at 52nd and Pine streets.

Police said people nearby helped officers pull the worker from the truck. He is in stable condition.

Seven people were hurt when two Atlantic City police officers riding ATVs crashed into each other on the boardwalk.

It happened Saturday afternoon near Brighton Avenue.

Police said two people and a boardwalk tram car were struck during the crash.

Seven people, including the two police officers, were taken to the hospital.

Last week’s seizure of 55 cats and a dog from a home in Northeast Philadelphia that was overrun with trash and animal waste was a huge undertaking for animal advocates. It comes at a time when shelters are already full. KYW Newsradio's crime and justice reporter Kristen Johanson spoke with a PSPCA official about how they are handling the animals.

Dick Wood Jr., the former president and CEO of Wawa, has died. He was 88.

According to his obituary, Wood “passed away peacefully at his home” on July 10.

Wood’s great-grandfather, George Wood, opened the first Wawa Dairy in 1902. Dick Wood joined the company in 1970 as general counsel and became president seven years later.

Under his leadership, Wawa grew to 900 stores, employing more than 3,600 workers. He pushed the company into the gas business and expanded hours at many stores to 24 hours a day.

He was also a philanthropist. CHOP’s Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment bears his name.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has signed a $50.85 billion budget — almost two weeks after the deadline.

It includes no new taxes and doesn’t dip into the commonwealth’s $8 billion rainy day fund.
