A former corrections officer at the Atlantic County Jail was sentenced to five years in prison for smuggling drugs and other contraband into the jail.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says 35-year-old Christopher Piccioni was working with an inmate, Dion Robinson, and Robinson’s girlfriend Qyderia Smith to smuggle in packages containing drugs, cigarettes, cell phones and other items.

Investigators say Smith prepped the packages and Piccioni was paid thousands of dollars per package.

Smith and Robinson have both pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and are awaiting sentencing.

A Gloucester Township man is arrested and charged in the stabbing death of his wife, whose body was pulled from their burning home early this morning. KYW Newsradio South Jersey reporter Mike Dougherty has more on this.
