A man who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges involving the accidental shooting of a 7-year-old will spend less than two years behind bars.

Alan Nguyen admitted he left out a gun while visiting the Juniata Park home where the little girl lived. She and a toddler went into the room, and she picked up the gun and shot herself in the face.

She died at the hospital.

Nguyen was charged and pleaded guilty last October.

Judge Scott O’Keefe sentenced him on Friday morning to 11.5 to 23 months in jail, which is a county sentence.

He is expected to surrender next month.

The bill that restricts all police from wearing face coverings was amended to provide some carve-outs for officer health and safety, or when face coverings are tactically necessary. It was emphasized that this would mainly apply to local and state police, with minimal, if any, impact on federal agents not under state jurisdiction.
