A cat and a dog were killed and three firefighters were hurt after fire tore through a home in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County.
Officials said it was around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when firefighters responded to a house fire in the 700 block of Germantown Pike, near Walton Avenue.
The Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company said it was a challenging night with the winds and below-freezing temperatures. Two firefighters suffered burns, and a third slipped on the ice, hurting their shoulder. All three are recovering at home.
The residents were not home at the time, but tragically, their pet dog and a cat perished in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
