The Department of Basic Education says it is aware of the challenges that confront schools in KwaZulu Natal due to floods caused by heavy downpours. Schools are opening on Wednesday nationwide for the start of the academic year. At least ten people are feared dead in the province. Search and rescue teams were still looking for at least two bodies of people who were washed away in oThongathi.  Four other people are still missing in the area.
