Ladies Horror Night

Tonight we’re watching Antonia Bird’s 1999 (best year for cinema) dark-comedy, RAVENOUS! A hilarious take on the Donner Party, and personally, we’ll take any angle we can get - BIG FANS. We discuss how characters using lanterns immediately makes a movie better, DIY tips on surviving in a cave (spoiler: keep those leather shoes supple), endless queer reads, and masculinity in the time of boring fort life. Let’s all light a lantern for Antonia - RIP.

Tonight we're watching Kei Fujiwara's directorial debut ORGAN, made during the height of trip hop in 1996, and now playing in 2019 at FFFEST in NYC during the height of trap metal. Coincidence, we think not.

ORGAN is a genre-fusion tour de force for transgressive Japanese filmmaker Kei Fujiwara. We've got plant-body-horror, a full on detective drama, a woman working her way out of a cocoon, and gnarly school girls puking while subverting tropes of sexy schoolgirls, all captured with a female-gaze that would make Laura Mulvey stand up and write another essay.

In this very special episode, we are coming to you LIVE from the Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, Alabama. Joining us is filmmaker and general freak of the week, Leah Shore as we recap Katt Shea’s THE RAGE: CARRIE 2. We’re talking rape culture, soft-butch jocks, White Zombie locker flare, and the least hot brother on Home Improvement. What is overlooked by many as a throwaway teen slasher from the 90s, THE RAGE proves to be a timely comment on rape culture and the insidious institutions that protect the men that commit these crimes, all while having a killer soundtrack, epic 90s fashion, and some very sweet revenge.

Tonight we're watching Rob Zombie's 2007 version of HALLOWEEN and then we're IMMEDIATELY going to the theater to see David Gordon Green & Danny McBride's 2018 version! We contemplate the difference between reboot and remake (hint: there is none), Daphne rekindles her love affair with Brad Dourif, and we both try not to gush about our mom Jamie Lee Curtis too much, but SHE IS OUR MOM! We also pay homage to Debra Hill, hero producer and creator of so many memorable moments in the original HALLOWEEN (1978). SPOILERS ABOUND, so don't say we didn't warn you. Grab a pumpkin, a knife, a wine, and a mask, because everyone's entitled to one good scare!

Tonight we’re watching Danny Boyle’s 2000 Thriller - THE BEACH. Yeah, we know, it’s NOT TECHNICALLY HORROR, but for people who are scared of sharks and Tilda Swinton on a power trip, this IS HARDCORE.

Fresh off another “worst vacation ever” film (TITANIC), Leo travels to a remote island in Thailand where Burners have created their own paradise off the grid, but like all beach raves, somebody’s gonna totally freak out before this party’s over.

Based on the book by Alex Garland (Dir. EX MACHINA, ANNIHILATION, and writer of 28 DAYS LATER) and featuring legit the best sound track ever: New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Underworld, All Saints, Moby, Sugar Ray, & fuckin’ Bob Marley’s Redemption Song, bro! We just got to the beach and dropped a pin, so good luck finding us!

VIDEO STORE TOUR: NYC Edition! In this very special episode, we are joined by a true vampire and founder of FUNERAL THEATER, Chi Orengo & his #1 BFF Future.

In true video store fashion, we show up having no idea what we want to watch, but trusty VHS hoarder Chi introduces us to the ultimate Slasher Shero, ANGELA!

Tonight we're recapping Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 gothic romance/the greatest love story ever told, BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA!

If you thought Heathcliff was a handful, wait 'till you meet our boo Dracula. BSD is basically an alt-Wuthering Heights, and you know we are into the BBC just as much as we love blood and guts - this movie makes us PINE hardcore. Come for the looks, stay for the undying love.
