"I am the Light of the world" John 8:12.
We are constantly striving to make sense of our
world. Why do good things happen to bad people? Why do bad things happen to good people?
Over time and experience, our cultures develop truisms,
these statements that seem to define a majority of the circumstances we question and how to live life.
“Make hay while the sun shines.” “A penny saved is a
penny earned.” “No good deed goes unpunished.” These truisms are accepted without debate.
But these truisms do nothing to give us life, they don’t
answer the question of death, they do not quench our thirst for our higher sense.
To find the answer to life over death, to understand how
to be victorious over the one enemy that captures all of us, we have to make some adjustments in our thinking.
1. First, we must acknowledge a higher truth than
ourselves. Do we believe all wisdom
resides on earth within mankind? Or do we believe that there is a place after death, a place of eternity which holds another truth for which a witness has come and declared?
2. Second, we accept the truth.
