Good morning anglers! Here’s your fishing report for Lake Guntersville, Alabama, on this fine April 2, 2025. The lake is absolutely buzzing with activity as we transition fully into spring, and conditions are prime for bass fishing right now.
The weather today is shaping up to be pleasant, with early morning temperatures in the upper 50s rising to the 70s by midday. Skies are clear, and the lake is calming down after recent weather fluctuations. Sunrise is at 6:28 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:06 p.m., giving you plenty of daylight to get out on the water.
Fishing activity is at a high, especially for largemouth bass. The water temperature is on the rise, currently hovering near 60-65°F, which is perfect for the full-blown spring spawn. Fish are moving up into the shallows, and we’re seeing bass bedding everywhere, making this one of the best times to target trophy fish. Just last week, anglers were pulling in bags topping 20-30 pounds during tournaments, and there’s no sign of the action slowing down.
What’s working best right now? For bedding bass, finesse setups are your go-to. Green Pumpkin or Watermelon-colored Berkley PowerBait MaxScent General worms rigged weightless or on a wacky rig are absolutely deadly. If you’re into moving baits and want to cover water, vibrating jigs and swimbaits, such as the Berkley PowerBait CullShad, are also producing excellent bites, especially over grass beds. Anglers using Alabama rigs along deeper channels or near submerged vegetation in 3-10 feet of water are connecting with some serious fish as well.
Hotspots to consider include Siebold Creek, North Sauty Creek, and South Sauty Creek. Brown’s Creek and Town Creek are also reliable areas, especially around grass lines and submerged vegetation that provide perfect cover for spawning bass. Near the Guntersville Dam, anglers have reported success targeting mixed species, including crappie and catfish, as well as bass.
Crappie fishing is also picking up, with reports of good catches in shallower areas around woody cover. Use live minnows or jigs in bright colors to entice them. Catfish action has been consistent too, with cut bait and chicken liver being effective.
With the REDCREST 2025 Championship starting tomorrow, expect heavier boat traffic, but don’t let that deter you—the fishing is too good to pass up. If you’re looking for quieter spots, focus on lesser-known areas off the beaten path.
Today could be the day you reel in your personal best. Get your gear ready, work those grass lines and shallow beds, and enjoy this incredible spring fishing season on Lake Guntersville!
