Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week-- where we reflect on and remember the events of the last week of Jesus’ life, culminating in his crucifixion and death on a cross. How should we consider the death of Jesus? Was he a martyr who died for what he believed like a number of other martyrs across a number of religions in history? Was he a political zealot whose teachings sought to undermine the power of Rome? Or was he the Son of God who willingly delivered himself into the hands of sinful men, so that through his death he might accomplish a greater work? Today we turn to Mark’s account of the events immediately preceding Jesus’ crucifixion.

In a world of confusion, the church must be crystal clear on who we are and what we are tasked with doing. We must remember our IDENTITY and our MISSION.1 Timothy 3:14-16 serves as a reminder for who we are, how we conduct ourselves, and the purpose of our existence.

On this episode of ‘Behind the Sermon’ Pastor David Sons reflects on 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and tries to answer an important question about deacons in the local church. To support this podcast and all of the other ministries of Lake Murray Baptist Church, click here: http://lakemurraybc.org/give

As we move to Chapter 3 of 1 Timothy, we are going to consider the two offices of the church, elder/pastor/overseer, and deacon. What are the purposes of these offices and how they are called to function in the leadership of the local church?

The passage we arrive at this morning is one of the most debated, discussed, and disagreed upon texts from the New Testament letters, especially in our present age.  In this section of his letter, Paul addresses the roles of men and women in public worship.

In this episode of Behind the Sermon, Pastor David Sons discusses the relationship between church and state, Christian civic responsibility, and the role of divine sovereignty and human responsibility in salvation from first Timothy 2:1-7. There are a lot of churches doing a lot of things. Good things. Helpful things. Meaningful things. But what is the essential thing a church is supposed to do?

In Chapter 2, the Apostle Paul moves from giving instruction to Timothy, to giving instruction to the entire church. In these verses, we can see both God’s plan for his people, the church, and his purpose for their existence.

This week on the podcast Pastors David Sons & David Bennett dig deeper into the sermon text from this past Sunday (1 Timothy 1:12-20). They discuss the topics of faith, restorative church discipline, and give practical insight on sharing your testimony.
