Lake Texoma Fishing Report: Shad Spawn Brings Stripers, Crappie, and Bass Action

Listen Later

Hey y'all, Artificial Lure here with your Lake Texoma fishing report for this beautiful Saturday morning, May 3rd, 2025.

Folks, the water's sitting at about 62 degrees with the lake level around 3.5 feet below pool, which ain't bad considering where we've been. That shad spawn is in full force right now, and it's bringing all kinds of action to our shorelines.

Striper fishing is downright great this week! With those rising water levels and warming temperatures, these fighters are hitting hard along rocky banks. Look for birds working the shorelines and surface activity – that's your dinner bell. Throw those topwaters and swimbaits early in the day for best results. Several guides are reporting good success along mudlines, flats, and under birds with swimbaits.

For you crappie folks, they're still scattered and spawning. Find them suspended under docks and near the top of brush piles. Jigs and small shad are producing in 12-15 feet of water, especially near creek mouths and coves.

Catfish are showing up nice along rocks and shallow flats. Try cut shad or prepared baits in 5-12 feet of water near points and drop-offs. They're mixing in with the stripers in some spots too.

Bass fishing remains good, with fish holding at the backs of coves and suspended near docks. With the shad spawn and rising lake levels, they're being pulled right up to the banks. Some success reported cranking and slow dragging over rock areas, with topwater action being particularly good in the morning.

For hot spots, I'd recommend hitting the sandy shorelines at daylight to catch that shad spawn action – white bass and stripers will be crushing it. The wind-blown shorelines and main lake points are producing well too. For structure fishing, look to rock piles and shallow rocky points – they're holding good numbers right now.

Word of caution: the lake's up several feet with lots of mud and floating debris, so navigate carefully out there. Also, those submerged trees are starting to show with others lurking just below the surface – keep your eyes peeled.

Bait-wise, live shad is king right now for stripers, but artificial swimmers and topwaters are producing during the shad spawn. For crappie, minnows around brush are your best bet. Bass are responding well to moving baits on rocky structure and soft plastics around shallow ledges and boat docks.

Don't forget your sunscreen today – it's warming up out there! And remember, the law requires draining water from boats when leaving to prevent spreading those zebra mussels.

That's it from me today. Tight lines and good fishing to ya! This is Artificial Lure signing off until next time.
