Good morning from Lake Texoma, this is Artificial Lure with your local fishing report for April 20, 2025.
The weather is starting out mild today with water temps hovering around the low 60s. We’re just a little over a foot below pool, and the lake is on the rise, so keep an eye out for floating debris if you’re running up the rivers or into the creeks. Expect partly cloudy conditions and the wind to pick up by late morning. Sunrise was at 6:47 AM and sunset is forecast for 8:05 PM.
Striper fishing remains a big draw right now, though it’s been a little up and down with the winds. Live bait is pulling limits on the flats and ledges in 30 to 45 feet of water, especially on those southern marinas and as the fish push up the Red and Washita rivers. The bigger stripers are moving shallow near the rivers, hitting points and humps. On overcast or windy days, swimbaits cast to structure and allowed to sink before a slow retrieve are working well. Under the birds, look for schooling fish and throw those swimbaits into the action to get bit. The early shad spawn means a topwater bite isn’t far off, so keep walk-the-dog style baits handy[1][2][4].
Crappie anglers are seeing fair numbers, with fish scattered in the creeks and wrapping up their spawn. Jigs and minnows are the ticket, focusing on 8 to 12 feet around brush, docks, and especially in creeks with some inflow. Use dark colors in the muddy water and lighter stuff when you’re fishing clear water or around docks[2][3][4].
Catfishing is pretty reliable on the flats off the river channels in 25 to 45 feet using cut shad or even prepared baits. Eater-sized channels are still being picked up along the rocky areas and on the flats, and you’ll find the bigger blue cats suspended as shad move higher with the warming water. Flatheads are showing up on stumps and brushy points[1][2][3].
Bass fishing is picking up as the water gets more stained and levels rise. With the shad getting active, try rocks and gravel near the banks or hit the docks early. Soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and shallow crankbaits are all working, especially near marinas and creek mouths[2][3][4].
For hot spots today, try the Washita arm from Catfish Bay up toward Platter Flats for stripers and catfish. The mouth of Buncombe Creek and Brush Creek are holding a good mix of crappie and bass. Remember to watch for wind gusts and boat traffic as the spring bite draws big crowds.
That’s the lowdown from Lake Texoma for April 20. Tight lines and good luck out there!
