Lake Texoma Fishing Report for April 12, 2025
Good morning, anglers! It’s a gorgeous spring day at Lake Texoma, and fishing is heating up as temperatures rise and fish get active. The water is stained and hovering around 60°F, with the lake sitting slightly below its normal pool level. The current weather promises mild temperatures with sunny skies, which should make for excellent fishing conditions throughout the day. Sunrise was at 6:54 AM, and sunset will be at 7:54 PM—plenty of daylight to reel in the big ones.
Striped bass fishing is particularly exciting right now. Stripers are moving aggressively toward shallow flats, creek-ledges, and points as they finish their spawning cycle. The best action has been in 25–40 feet of water using live shad, though swimbaits are also working wonders when cast near visible birds hovering above schooling fish. For shallower zones, try your luck with swim jigs or Alabama rigs around creek mouths and humps in 5–12 feet of water. A recent report noted anglers catching limits of stripers around Denison Dam and Burns Run East, making these reliable hot spots.
Crappie are on the move with the warmer water temperatures and recent inflow. Creeks with brush and structure are seeing an uptick in activity. Use jigs or minnows to target fish in 8–12 feet of water near the mouths of coves and timber. Pottsboro and Little Mineral Arm are excellent destinations to pull in slabs of crappie.
Catfishing is steady, especially on deep flats off the river channels in 25–55 feet of water. Drift cut shad or other prepared baits for good results. For those targeting larger catfish, whole gizzard shad fished along deeper ledges can produce some trophy-sized blues. Burns Run and Platter Flats are solid areas to try.
Bass anglers are reporting better activity around docks, brush, and shallow creeks. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are reacting well to crankbaits and jerk baits in shallow zones. For deeper brush piles and stumps, soft plastics like Texas rigs remain effective. Try Eisenhower State Park or bluffs near the Denison Dam for some of the best action.
If you're looking for hotspots, the Denison Dam remains a go-to area for striped bass, thanks to its rocky shoreline and congregation of baitfish. Burns Run East and the Islands near Highport Marina are also fantastic for both guided trips and independent anglers. For crappie, Pottsboro and Little Mineral Arm should not be overlooked.
Recommended bait and lures for today include:
- Live shad for stripers and catfish
- Jigs and minnows for crappie
- Crankbaits, jerk baits, and soft plastics for bass
- Swimbaits and Alabama rigs near schooling stripers
Whether fishing from a boat, the shore, or the pier at Eisenhower State Park, today is shaping up to be a great day on the water. Stay safe, watch for floating debris, and tight lines to all!
