This week Paul tells the Colossians, and us, to "put on" our new identities in Christ. Our new clothing of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. He also reminds us that what we do, must first flow from what Christ has done for us!

As we close out in Chapter 2, Paul has been writing about what it means to ‘walk in him’ as you ‘received him’ - by living in and out of what Christ has done for you and avoiding anything that would distraction, disconnect or disqualify you. And now he gets to the root issue and his final warning…revealing the lie and lure of legalism - by showing us how legalism distorts the work Christ has done and is doing in you!

As we move along in Chapter 2, Paul writes about the "many things" that sometime subtly supplant the "one thing" we were made for. When that happens, our whole identity shifts from what Christ has done for us to what WE do, dislodging Him from the center of our attention and affection.

This week, we’re taking a quick break from Colossians to think about one of the most important and neglected aspects of our Christian life. The one that drives all growth and gospel movement - PRAYER! Jesus gave us a model for prayer in Matthew 6. It wasn’t supposed to be something we merely recited word-for-word, but to give shape and direction to our prayer life! He said, “Pray  like this…”
