Genesis 22 happily represents the triumph of his faith expressed in his obedience to God's command to sacrifice his son Isaac, the one through whom all of God's promises would be fulfilled. In this account, we see Abraham's resolute manner as he prepares for the journey that leads him to the land of Moriah, where Isaac will be offered as a sacrifice. In a more subtle way, we see Isaac's willing participation and shared faith with Abraham that God will raise him from the dead. The true hero of the story, though, is God Himself, seen in the marvelously prophetic utterance of Abraham, "God will provide for Himself the lamb" (Genesis 22:8), which speaks of God the Father's resolve to save undeserving sinners, and the willing sacrifice and obedience of our Lord Jesus Christ, perhaps on the exact same hill about two thousand years later, when He was the final and perfect Lamb of God.
