All this week, we’re raising money to send care packages to U.S. troops overseas and support efforts of the Veterans Community Project to end veteran homelessness. Also, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says it wants to improve the regulations regarding electronic logging devices. But there may be some disagreement with truckers in terms of what “improve” means. And a slew of state and local ballots had voters deciding transportation issues. We’ll find out what happened where from our state legislative expert, Keith Goble.

Also, as part of our series marking OOIDA’s 50th anniversary, Ashley Blackford reports on where we're at in the fight for truckers to get paid overtime. And Tuesday is election day, and all 435 members of the U.S. House and one-third of the U.S. Senate will face the voters, along with a host of ballot issues in different states. We’ll discuss what’s likely to happen and how it might shape policy.

LLN (11/3/22) – OOIDA has stepped into a court case involving California and new emission standards. We’ll get the details on that – and an attempt to put truckers who fail to pay certain fees out-of-service. Also, hundreds of women are expected at this year’s Women in Trucking Conference coming up. we’ll have details on that, as well as a look at this month’s Land Line Magazine. And a new rule in Pennsylvania requires snow and ice to be removed from atop vehicles. And now, the state lawmaker responsible for that legislation wants to set up a grant program for scrapers to be installed around the state.

LLN (11/1/22) – When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, in one state, parking for those truckers was suddenly cut off. As part of our celebration of OOIDA’s 50th anniversary, we’ll look back at what the Association did to get that parking opened back up. Also, it’s vital to have your truck in good working order when you head out on the road, and the same applies for your health. We’ll focus on U.S. DOT physicals and what you can do to get your health in check with Stephen Kane of Rolling Strong. And Louisiana may consider a higher road user fee to help pay for road and bridge work. Meanwhile, one Florida county is battling in court over a road funding ballot measure.

And when it comes to leasing onto a carrier, there are a few things you should know when it comes to insurance. Trina Skywalker of OOIDA’s Truck Insurance Department talks about what to look for in your lease agreement.

That’s according to the American Transportation Research Institute’s Top Industry Issues report. ATRI’s President and COO Rebecca Brewster explains what else this year’s survey turned up. Also, there are several benefits to trucking with a pet, but finding pet friendly stops along your route can be a difficult task. We’ll talk with a professional about pet-friendly truck stops. And as the economy continues to send up warning signs, many truckers are being faced with some difficult choices. And Marty Ellis is hearing from a lot of those truckers.
