In Revelation 5, heaven erupts in worship as the Lamb takes the scroll— God's final decree and the title deed of the earth. The One who was slain for the redemption of the world is now revealed as the rightful ruler of the world. In Revelation 4, John is taken into the throne room of heaven where worship never ceases. The throne is settled. The King is seated. The living creatures cry, “Holy, holy, holy,” and the elders respond, “You are worthy.”

But in Revelation 5, the scene suddenly shifts.

John sees a scroll in the right hand of the One on the throne — and a question echoes through heaven: Who is worthy to open it?

This message walks through Revelation 5:1–8, revealing why the Lion of the tribe of Judah alone is worthy to take the scroll and begin the unfolding of God’s plan for history.

The Lion who conquered is the Lamb who was slain — and only He has the right to reclaim what was lost.

In John 8:1–11, we witness the collision between human self-appointed authority and divine truth. Religious leaders attempt to trap Jesus with the Law, but the embodiment of Truth turns a legal dispute into a confrontation of the conscience. As accusations fall silent and stones drop to the ground, we see that when Truth stands in the room, autonomy crumbles and hearts are exposed. Yet the same Word who judges also shows mercy, freeing the guilty and calling them into new obedience. This sermon invites us to consider whether we will stand over against Christ in self-righteous confidence—or sit at His feet, receive His grace, and walk in the light.

Fulfillment and frustration do not come from circumstances, but from whether a man remains under God’s authority or insists on governing himself. The fear of the Lord brings the soul into proper order, where the mind submits to truth, the emotions become quiet, and the will yields in obedience, allowing God’s life to flow unhindered. When a man resists correction and clings to self-rule, he may preserve his independence, but he loses inward life and becomes governed by decay rather than by grace. Therefore, in the time remaining, the decisive question is not what a man achieves outwardly, but whether he has surrendered inwardly—because only the surrendered life can know true fulfillment before God.

In this message from Revelation 4:6b–11, we encounter the four living creatures (cherubim), the unceasing cry of “Holy, holy, holy,” and the twenty-four elders falling down to cast their crowns before the throne.

Revelation reminds us: heaven is not chaotic, anxious, or rushed. It is fixed on God. Before wrath breaks forth on earth, worship rises in heaven.

In Revelation 4, heaven opens—and the first thing John sees is not chaos, not judgment, not angels in motion… but a throne.

Before the tribulation unfolds on earth, Scripture reveals the settled authority of heaven. God is not reacting—He is reigning. The throne is established, the King is seated, and everything that follows in Revelation 6–19 flows from this throne-room reality.

In Psalm 36, David exposes what happens when there is no fear of God before our eyes. Sin doesn’t accuse—it affirms. The wicked flatter themselves, minimize evil, and drift into a lifestyle of deception and arrogance.

But then the psalm makes a stunning theological pivot: from the darkness of man to the heights of God. God’s mercy reaches to the heavens, His righteousness stands like the mountains, and His people find refuge under the shadow of His wings.

This message is a call to recover a big view of God, a proper hatred of sin, and a deep trust in the Lord’s justice. You don’t have to fight for vengeance—pride will take the wicked “there,” and God will deal with them far better than we ever could.
